Why invest in a Defibrillator?

Why invest in a Defibrillator?

When someone is having a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), every single second really does count. SCA is a leading cause of death globally and it can happen to anyone, even young athletes.

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) when used within the first 3-5 minutes of a person suffering a SCA can dramatically increase a victim's chance of survival from less than 6% to as much as 74%. Investing in an AED for your workplace will give your team a drastically increased chance of survival.

‘An ambulance takes on average 8 minutes to arrive at a scene.’

In addition, with the news of ambulance response times increasing it is vital that every location is equipped with a defibrillator so that immediate treatment can begin. Or, knowing the exact location of your nearest AED/Defibrillator can make all of the difference between life and death. For every minute that passes without treatment the victim’s chance of survival decreases by approximately 10%.

How does an AED/Defibrillator work?

An Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) is a device that shocks the heart back into a normal rhythm following a SCA. When you invest in a defibrillator, you are investing in a life-saving piece of equipment for your workforce. A defibrillator along with effective CPR is the only definitive treatment for SCA.

Defibrillators Are Easy to Use

AEDs are designed so that they can be used by virtually anyone with little or no training or experience. Most public access AEDs are easy to use with voice-guided instructions, meaning you can respond and provide immediate life saving treatment, before the ambulance service arrives.

Training is recommended to build confidence, however, following several requests from our customers, we put together this useful step-by-step guide on how to use an AED.

Why invest in a defibrillator?

Whilst numerous public places in the UK are equipped with AEDs, the workplace is a different challenge. It is not an HSE requirement to have one on the premises, but it is an invaluable device that could save someone's life.

That in itself should be the number one reason that you make the investment. Your employees are your number one assets and their health and safety should be a number one priority.
