Launched by the White House in October 2015, Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign and a call to action that's now being rolled out across the USA.
Stop the Bleed is a campaign intended to cultivate grassroots efforts that encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.
Do we in the UK need to get behind a similar national campaign like the Americans?
Here in the UK we have citizenAID who are a registered charity with a focused mission to prepare individuals, communities and organisations to help themselves and each other when there are casualties from a terrorist or other deliberate attack.
citizenAID's aim is to empower the public to take immediate action and save lives when there are multiple casualties.
No matter how rapid the arrival of professional emergency responders, bystanders will always be first on the scene. A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes, therefore it is important to quickly stop the blood loss. Those nearest to someone with life threatening injuries are best positioned to provide first care.
