SP Services Supporting Our Military Medics

At SP, we've had a close and valued 'partnership' with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) for well over 25 years and when we heard that some combat medics in our Armed Forces were taking part in the 2017 Charity Field Gun Competition and needed our help, then we were happy to step up to the plate.

We are very proud to be providing logistical, financial and moral support to the 2017 Field Gun Crew from Whittington Barracks, near Lichfield in Staffordshire.

Whittington Barracks is home to the Defence College of Healthcare Education and Training (DCHET) and is the training centre of Defence Medical Services.

Our MD Steve Bray visited the Field Gun Crew today (10th May) to observe one of their afternoon training sessions. Steve said 'The weight of the cast iron field gun is just enormous and it's both frightening and exciting when you're up close and see the speed at which the team race and manoeuvre the gun around the track. I'm really looking forward to following the team's progress week by week and attending the competition finals at HMS Collingwood in Hampshire on Saturday 3rd June."

MOD paramedic Alastair Richards, from Whittington's Field Gun Crew, thanked Steve and his company for its support. “The competition is exhilarating, gladiatorial, and like no other team building or personal development in which the team of 18 train for ten weeks. They clatter over cobbles with a field gun working with Formula One precision in front of a cheering 24,000 strong crowd.”

All profits from the Field Gun Competition finals go to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).
